  1. Hi just thought I would say hello. I have looked at your blog before but don't think I posted. I also teach textiles (up to A'level) you have some useful Utube vidoes i will use. I love and hate teaching the theory - love the knowledge - hate the fact that the exam is so awful and feel sorry for my students who are not as obsessed with this factual stuff as I am!

  2. Hi there! thanks for commenting. I completely agree about the theory side. Its so hard to get them enthusiastic about it but we do our best! The exam is SO terrible, how they are meant to learn all of it is totally beyond me. Maybe we could swap a few resources? Send me an email and I can forward a few power points I have if you like. They are'nt ravingly exciting but might be useful and keep checking the blog of course!

  3. Actually I wanted to ask what you teach for this part of the syllabus.............
    A2 - 'Consumer advice in relation to the performance of different fabrics.' is this just talking about care label stuff - where do we find the 'consumer advice'?

  4. God I do loath teaching this sort of thing! but it has to be done, I tend to include it in with several other things;

    Care labelling (I use the HLCC website to do this)

    The difference between 'waterproof' and 'water repellant' Trade descriptions act etc.

    The use of brand names for fabrics and fibres, what these actually MEAN (eg If it says Gore-Tex then its not just got the membrane, the consumers has other gaurantees about quality and construction etc) see the gore tex siht for more info on this.

    General consumer rights stuff (Which? website is good for this, as are all those Dom Littlewood 'know your rights' type of sights)

    Hope this helps but as always you have to cobble it all together from a real range of sources. I'll have another trawl through my video clips, I seem to remember something from New Look about their consumer advice for textiles products.

    Will post anything I think will be of use!
